Hunting

So today was the last day of the general deer hunt. I was able to get out this morning and do some last ditch road hunting, but no luck. I guess I won't complain after last years good fortune on that big boy. I do have a cow elk tag that runs through the end of November so hunting big game isn't quite over yet. Plus, I can hunt birds the rest of the year. This will be my first year hunting elk, and I've already seen 3 in my unit and 20 or so today that weren't in the unit I have the tag for. I actually missed a 50 or so yard shot last weekend at a cow. I don't feel to bad she was in the thick timber, and on the run. Today's group had a spike and what could have been a really big bull. It was hard to tell, we didn't get that long a look at them. We caught them leaving the water hole and they were in a hurry to get back into the trees. They're a little spooked about now, going on 2 plus straight months of being chased around. Anyway, I am pretty optomistic with my tag. We'll see, that's why they call it hunting.
